Rosita Arvigo, DN, Herbalist
We will work with Rosita for 2 days during the retreat. Rosita Arvigo is a world-renowned herbalist, naturopathic doctor, and author whose life’s work is devoted to the living traditions of Mayan medicine, spirituality, and plant wisdom. Originally from Chicago, she has lived and practiced in Belize for over 50 years, walking in deep relationship with the land, the plants, and the Maya people. Trained by Don Elijio Panti, one of Belize’s most revered shamans and bush doctors, Rosita serves as a bridge between ancient indigenous knowledge and modern healing, carrying these teachings with humility, reverence, and integrity.
During retreat experiences, Rosita invites participants into an embodied and ceremonial relationship with Mayan healing traditions. She is the founder and primary teacher of Arvigo® Techniques of Maya Abdominal Therapy, a sacred and holistic approach to restoring balance that is practiced worldwide. Her work also includes collaboration with Dr. Michael Balick of the New York Botanical Garden on the Belize Ethnobotany Project, and the founding of the Ix Chel Tropical Research Center & Foundation and the Abdominal Therapy Collective. To work with Rosita is to enter a lineage-held space of prayer, plant spirit medicine, and ancestral wisdom—an experience that is both deeply grounding and profoundly transformative.
